The two most highly anticipated films of the year—Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Captain America: Civil War—were both adapted from popular DC and Marvel comics. Our favorite characters have been a part of American culture ever since they were created. The rival publishers came from humble beginnings in New York City during the late 1930s.
Batman and Superman were developed for DC Comics and first hit newsstands in 1939. Captain America soon followed making his Marvel Comics debut in 1941.
It didn’t take long for comic book fans to fall in love with the colorful stories and iconic heroes that filled each page. All three classic characters have appeared in film, and featured in radio and television series for decades.
