Marvel Studios recently released the trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which was well received. However, the positive reviews did not last long after some of the movie posters were released. According to Movieweb, audiences believe the posters were generated by using AI art. The poster under scrutiny is that of a group of people in the 1960s in the style of a Life Magazine Cover. Social media users took to their platforms and pointed out the flaws of the poster that brought them to believe it was AI. A person holding a flag seems to only have four fingers while another seems to be used in the poster twice.
Another film that received criticism for the use of AI for its movie posters was Civil War from A24. The posters were criticized and did not match the actual film. Marvel has been accused of using AI before in the opening credits of Secret Invasion, which audiences did not care for.
As Movieweb pointed out, Disney is a big enough company to pay artists and many believe the artist Alex Ross should have been hired since it was his art style the poster was believed to emulate.
However, since the accusations of AI a spokesperson from Marvel told The Hollywood Reporter that the speculations were false. Marvel has denied the use of AI for the Fantastic Four movie poster. The film will be released in July 2025.
