One month before the release of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, someone leaked a 63-page transcript of the film’s dialogue on Reddit. Because of this, Marvel is seeking action to find the culprit’s identity.
They requested the federal district court to issue a subpoena against Reddit to compel them to identify the user or group responsible for the leak. In their request, Marvel demands the identity of the moderator of the subreddit r/MarvelStudiosSpoilers alongside “any other user(s) responsible for posting, editing, and/or maintaining the content” from January 15 to February 15th.
Marvel even sent a similar subpoena to Google because someone allegedly shared the document onto Google Docs. These subpoenas follow several DMCA takedown requests issued by Marvel against both Google and Reddit to take down the transcript. When approached for a comment, both companies did not immediately respond to these requests.
Reddit currently declines to say whether the company has agreed to comply with Marvel’s demands or not. When asked, a spokesperson said that Reddit is dedicated to protecting user privacy and information. Still, they also confirmed that they “have rigorous processes in place to assess legal requests and object when appropriate.”
According to the piracy news site TorrentFreak, the leaked dialogue was edited and/or displayed on a Portuguese web interface. They also noted that the dialogue was intended for subtitle use.
