Martin Mull, accomplished television actor, musician, and renowned painter, has passed away at age 80 after long and serious fight with illness. Mull’s family made the announcement public on Instagram reporting that Mull passed on Thursday, June 27.
Mull was best known for his roles on TV shows such as Rosanne and Sabrina the Teenage Witch, along with his recurring beloved role on Arrested Development and Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman. Mull’s massive library of roles and artistic creations is vast and numerous with a variety of roles not just limited to comedy. Mull is survived by his wife and daughters. Our hearts and sympathies go out to the family for this tragedy, Mull will be missed dearly by all he brought joy to.
Mull was beloved by many across the entertainment field, to quote his daughter, Maggie Mull, “for excelling at every creative discipline imaginable” as well as “the Red Roof Inn commercials. He would find that joke funny.” Among Mull’s life of great achievements is a long music career of songwriting and performing including being the author of Jane Morgan’s 1970 song “A Girl Named Johnny Cash.” Mull would go on to be the opening act for Bruce Springsteen, Frank Zappa, and Billy Joel, and many other musicians. Mull as a painter was also the artist behind icon album covers from Steve Martin and Edie Brickwell’s 2013 album, Love Has Come for You. His first appearance in a feature film was back in 1978 in the movie FM. Mull would go on to appear and voice numerous characters in both film, television, and animation. His legacy is strong, and his memory will not be forgotten.
