Comedian Marlon Wayans (White Chicks) will produce, write, and star in the Fifty Shades of Grey spoof Fifty Shades of Black, with his Haunted House director Michael Tiddes also on board. In a deal made just ahead of the Cannes Film Festival, IM Global has signed on to finance the comedy.
Wayans began his cinematic spoof career in 2000 in the original Scary Movie and went on to write, produce, and act in various other parodies including Scary Movie 2, 3 and 4, as well as Dance Flick and the two Haunted House films, which were also IM Global collaborations. Wayans has also recently appeared with Melissa McCarthy and Sandra Bullock in The Heat. Fifty Shades of Black will be his next big project.
The film is set to be released in early 2016, likely sometime before the Fifty Shades Darker sequel, which will premiere close to Valentine’s Day. Production on the parody flick will commence immediately.
We’re excited to be back in business with IM Global doing our comedic remix of this movie,” Wayans said in a released statement. ” Sex and comedy go hand-in-hand, and I’m looking forward to having fun with this project. It’s amazing when a film of this caliber comes along begging to be made fun of. I’m really happy to be doing what I love with people I love to do it with. That double entendre was intentional.
