Mark Wahlberg is set to star in the recently acquired by Netflix action thriller The Operator, with a script by Harrison Query.

The feature, according to Deadline, centers around Wahlberg’s character of an “ex-Tier One Operator who earns a living as one of the CIA’s invisible clean-up men.” When a mission centers around him getting his “most hated” target to refuge, the task rapidly changes into “a high-stakes cat and mouse game for survival.” There is no current director attached to the project, with the search being “currently underway.” Wahlberg and his producing partner, Stephen Levinson, are set to produce under their Municipal Pictures banner alongside The Picture Company’s Alex Heineman and Andrew Rona.  12:01 Films’ Scott Glassgold is also set to produce, and Query is set to executive produce.

Wahlberg and Query have both had big years entertainment-wise, with the former starring in three films this year, including Lionsgate’s Flight Risk, Amazon MGM’s Play Dirty, and Apple+’s The Family Plan 2. Wahlberg is set to star in three upcoming films, aside from this one, including Amazon MGM’s Balls Up, Hammerstone Studios’ By Any Means, and Apple TV+’s Weekend Warriors.

Query wrote the script for 2025’s Heads of State, which became Prime Video’s fourth most-streamed film of all time. He is also set to adapt a feature-length script from the short story “Code Black” that Jake Gyllenhaal has been confirmed to star in. Next up for the writer and producer is Paramount+’s Unspeakable: The Murder of JonBenét Ramsey, where he will be credited as a co-creator and executive producer.

Mallery McKay: I am a graduate student, focusing on writing for and about films. I have a passion for films and the news surrounding them, so I always try and keep up to date with the latest news.
