Lionsgate’s action-thriller Flight Risk, starring Mark Wahlberg & Topher Grace, has already faced a rough landing at a 24% (labeled “rotten”) critic’s score on Rotten Tomatoes after its release. A review by Collider mentions that “some elements and moments are effective, but they’re layered with subplot details, character performances, and related choices that don’t work as well as intended.” Despite all this, the film has succeeded in obtaining first-place debut at this weekend’s box office. Flight Risk grossed a $12 million sum against a reported $10 production budget; the film is also projected to reach success when it hits video-on-demand and streaming services after its theatrical run ends.
Flight Risk follows Wahlberg’s character as a pilot tasked with transporting an Air Marshal (Michelle Dockery) and criminal (Topher Grace) across the Alaskan wilderness. As their flight progresses, tensions will soar and it is revealed that those on board are not as they seem. The film was directed by Mel Gibson and is his return to filmmaking after an almost decade-long hiatus. It is Lionsgate’s second chart-topping release of 2025, after Den of Thieves 2: Pantera. This feat comes after an unsuccessful 2024, which saw no box office lead entries for the studio.
Flight Risk is now playing in theaters. Watch the trailer below.
