Since her breakout role in 2013’s The Wolf of Wall Street, Margot Robbie has become a major Hollywood starlet. Last year she had Focus as well as the indie drama Z for Zachariah released, and now she’s moving on to even deeper waters. She has now been confirmed to star in the noir thriller Terminal with Vaughn Stein set to helm the project.
The story follows two hitmen who are tasked in carrying out a high-risk mission by a secretive employer. Robbie’s character seems to be the femme fatale of sorts because as the hitmen dive deeper into the mission, they encounter her and realize she’s much more than she appears. The film could be taking more of a classic approach to the genre which could make it even more interesting than it already sounds.
Stein has never directed his own feature but has had plenty of experience as a second and third unit assistant director on films like In the Heart of the Sea and The Danish Girl. Having also written the script himself, this will very much be an auteur project for him. If the film does well, this could prove to be a big jumpstart in his career. The project will be financed by Highland Film Group, who are also looking for buyers in Berlin to possibly release the film in European Markets.
Robbie doesn’t seem to be slowing down one bit as she prepares for her busy year ahead that has Whiskey Tango Foxtrot releasing on March 4, The Legend of Tarzan on July 1, and Suicide Squad on August 5. The official release of Terminal has yet to be confirmed, but pre-production is officially underway.
