The Wolf of Wall Street’s Margot Robbie just signed on as the female lead in the post-apocalyptic Z for Zachariah. She is replacing Amanda Seyfried, who ran into a scheduling conflict after the production start date was shifted out of 2013, and joining an existing cast that includes Chris Pine (Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit) and Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years A Slave).
The film is adapted from the Robert C. O’Brien novel of the same name, which tells the story of a sixteen year old girl (although the character will be older in the film due to Robbie’s casting) who survives a nuclear war. She believes herself to be the last survivor, but when a man stumbles upon her living quarters she must decided whether she can trust him.
Robbie’s Hollywood star is certainly on the rise. In addition to appearing in Martin Scorsese’s critically acclaimed The Wolf of Wall Street, she recently co-starred with Will Smith in Focus, wrapped up filming on Suite Francaise and was reportedly offered the role of Jane in the upcoming Warner Bros Tarzan reboot.
Z for Zachariah will be directed by Craig Zobel (Compliance).
