Wes Anderson’s casts tend to be as big as they are adjusted to a group of names that faithfully reprise working with him. Therefore, it is easy to speak of a “great Anderson family,” and to contemplate new additions as a possibility for the clan to grow larger, assuming these will return in future films. With this perspective, it is even more promising that Tom Hanks has been chosen to appear in his new directorial effort after The French Dispatch and that, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Margot Robbie has done the same. For now, as usual, it seems that both roles will be supporting characters.
Robbie is the latest addition to a cast that already includes Adrien Brody, Bill Murray and Tilda Swinton as usual suspects, in a film we know nothing about beyond where it will be shot: Madrid, Spain. In late August Anderson will travel with the rest of the team to this Spanish location, where a set reminiscent of westerns was built recently … despite the fact that sources close to the production have already stated that the film does not belong to this genre. According to Swinton, it will not be “a story about Spain” either.
We know the news shortly after The Suicide Squad, where Robbie returns to play Harley Quinn, has hit theaters, and while she completes filming a project with David O. Russell as well as Babylon, an anticipated Damien Chazelle blockbuster set for January 2023 where Robbie reunites with Brad Pitt after Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Beyond these titles, the actress also plans to star in Barbie, directed by Greta Gerwig and produced via Robbie’s banner, LuckyChap.
