Popular horror actress and scream queen Maika Monroe has just teased the status of the sequel to It Follows, titled They Follow. She revealed that she has read the script for the film and is excited to get started on it. She stated, “I was sent the script and I thought it was incredible. It’s also very different from the original. I felt the original was a little more heightened and dramatic, and this I think is really quite grounded.”
It is still unclear when the film will be made, however. The director of It Follows, David Robert Mitchell, is reportedly still working on Flowervale Street, a project which also has little information available. However, when asked about production, Monroe suggested that production on They Follow may start next year. She said, “Rumors are of next year. We’ve all been busy. But the script is so good. I absolutely think this movie should get made, because I think fans will be really happy. I think it’s exceptional.”
Maika Monroe is currently promoting her latest film, The Hand That Rocks the Cradle, a remake of the cult classic from 1992. The film is directed by Michelle Garza Cervera and also stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead. The film is now streaming on Hulu. She is also starring in the Colleen Hoover adaptation Reminders of Him next year alongside Tyriq Withers (HIM, I Know What You Did Last Summer). They Follow currently has no has no release window, but stay tuned for updates on the film.
