Diane Kruger may officially have her marbles in this year’s awards race now that Magnolia Pictures has picked up her latest starring film In the Fade for U.S. distribution. According to Variety, Magnolia is planning an end-of-year release for the film and an Oscar campaign to follow for its lead actress.
In the Fade hit the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year to glowing reviews from critics, and Kruger even took away the festival’s Best Actress prize for the film. The German movie, written and directed by Fatih Akin, follows Katja (Kruger) after the tragic death of her husband and son. Following a period of great mourning, Katja takes back control on a mission of revenge.
Kruger is most known for her roles in Inglorious Basterds and the National Treasure films. This will be the actress’s first foray into the awards race. According to Magnolia President Eamonn Bowles, “Diane Kruger’s performance in ‘In the Fade’ is one for the ages. It is a stunning anchor to this incredibly timely and powerful film.”
An official release date has not yet been set, but audiences can expect it likely in a limited release sometime before the end of December.
