Gregg Araki’s upcoming film I Want Your Sex, starring Cooper Hoffman and Olivia Wilde, has made waves at the recent Sundance Film Festival. Magnolia will now be behind the U.S. theatrical release of the film, paying north of 7 figures to secure said rights according to Deadline.
The story will follow Elliot (Hoffman) as he transitions into his new job under artist Erika Tracy (Wilde). Known for inciting chaos, Tracy takes Elliot as her sexual muse and flips his world on its head, inviting him into a world of deceit that will turn deadly. He is forced to question his own relationship with his girlfriend (Charli xcx) and his roommate (Chase Sui Wonders) in this film that blends rom com with murder mystery, under the unique artistic vision Araki has become known for.
The rest of the cast is rounded out by the likes of Mason Gooding, Daveed Diggs, Johnny Knoxville, Margaret Cho, and Roxane Mesquida. Gregg Araki not only directed, but is also attached as a producer and co-wrote the script alongside Karley Sciortino. This is also not the only noise Olivia Wilde made at Sundance, as her directorial project The Invite was secured by A24 following an intense bidding war. Co-CEOs at Magnolia, Eamonn Bowles and Dori Begley, expressed their love for the film, specifically highlighting their admiration of Araki and how this film will make for a fantastic theatrical experience for audiences.
There is currently no release date attached to the project, but it is expected to hit theaters later this year.
