In the wake of the passing of Maggie Smith, many different people have taken to tributing the actress in one form or another for her many contributions to the world of acting over the years. Among these include her former co-stars from the Harry Potter series.
Although she boasted many iconic roles, her work in the Harry Potter films are some of her most recognizable. Smith appeared in 7 of the 8 films in the series as Professor Minerva McGonagall, a stern yet kind professor who cared deeply for her students.
Among those students was none other than Harry Potter himself, played by Daniel Radcliffe. According to Deadline, Radcliffe made a statement to the press following Smith’s passing, detailing his fond memories of her.
He remarked that once he met her at a young age, he was nervous to meet her but was immediately relaxed upon doing so.
On top of his plethora of kind words in her regard, he said, “I will always consider myself amazingly lucky to have been able to work with her and to spend time around her on set. The word legend is overused but if it applies to anyone in our industry then it applies to her. Thank you Maggie.”
Similarly, Gary Oldman took an opportunity when speaking to Entertainment Weekly to speak about his immense regard for Smith. Oldman was responsible for playing Sirius Black in several of the films. On top of highlighting her talent, Oldman said, “Such an artist comes along about every other generation. If one is lucky.”
