American actress Maggie Gyllenhaal (Secretary, The Kindergarten Teacher) and English actor Ralph Fiennes (Schindler’s List, The Grand Budapest Hotel) will star in a film depicting events that unfolded around the creation of the Farnsworth House.
The Farnsworth House, which is now a US landmark, is an entirely steel and glass house constructed in the mid 1940s- early 1950s by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, who also designed it. It was commissioned by Edith Farnsworth who was a prominent nephrologist in Chicago and it sits on an estate site south of Plano, Illinois. The film will be set in Chicago during the 1940s with Fiennes portraying the architect Der Rohe and Gyllenhaal as Dr. Farnsworth. It will follow the events of trying to build the first glass house and the turbulent love affair that took place between the architect and the doctor.
Richard Press wrote the script and will direct while Albert Berger and Ron Yerxa will produce the picture. With both Fiennes and Gyllenhaal having prolific acting careers, this film has the high possibility of having wonderful performances from its leads. Little is currently known about the project as it is currently in pre-production.
