Roadside Attraction’s recently released trailer for action horror Dust Bunny stars Mads Mikkelsen (Casino Royale) as a hitman who helps his ten-year-old neighbor, Aurora (Sophie Sloan), avenge her parents’ death. Mikkelsen believes he is at fault for Aurora’s loss, because her parents’ assassins were targeting him instead.
Dust Bunny is Bryan Fuller’s feature film directorial debut. Fuller, who also wrote the script for the film, is best known for directing the horror series Hannibal, in which he worked with Mikkelsen (who stars as the titular psychopath) for three seasons.
The trailer, which does not reveal much, does suggest Sigourney Weaver (Alien) and David Dastmalchian (Prisoners) as potential adversaries for Mikkelsen. The clips combine domestic scenes imbued with animal figures and childish imagination (Aurora understands assassins as “monsters”) with the duo’s colorful quest, which takes them through lush sunflower fields to dense, neon-lit Chinese cityscapes. Mikkelsen’s navigation of underworld relations amidst colorful international scenery is reminiscent of Keanu Reeves’ journey in John Wick: Chapter 4.
Dust Bunny is produced by Bryan Fuller, Basil Iwanyck, and Erica Lee. The movie premieres at the Toronto International Film Festival’s Midnight Madness program on September 9, and will reach theaters on December 5th.
