Blumhouse has announced that Oscar-winning actress Octavia Spencer will be returning for Ma 2, a sequel to the revenge horror film from 2019.
Ma followed a group of teen-aged friends who befriend the titular Sue Ann (Octavia Spencer), a lonely woman desperately looking for connection. She ends up buying them booze and allows them to party at her house, but as time goes on the teens begin to question what her true intentions with them are. The film grossed over $60 million with a miniscule budget of $5 million, making the film a solid success for Blumhouse and Universal. The film was directed by Tate Taylor, who also directed the Oscar-nominated period drama The Help. That film also featured Octavia Spencer, who won her Oscar for Best Supporting Actress.
Outside of Octavia Spencer’s involvement, all we know about the film is that it is coming from Blumhouse and Atomic Monster. No release date has been set, and no other cast or crew were announced just yet.
