The director of M3GAN is back for another movie about dolls. Gerard Johnstone just landed the director’s chair for a movie based on the popular doll toy line, Monster High.

As the name of the brand would imply, Monster High blends a high school set group of dolls with classic monster designs, from Frankenstein to vampires. Since the kick off of the toy line in 2010, it’s been a hot commodity for distributor Mattel, with many of the toys being best sellers for them.

As stated, Johnstone already has experience with dolls when it comes to M3GAN, albeit much more high tech ones. He also directed and wrote 2014’s Housebound, and the short film Special Crimes Unit.

Written by Akela Cooper and produced by Blumhouse, M3GAN became a big hit for the company, scooping up $30 million in its domestic opening, a very good turnout for a movie released in January. It would go on to take home a total of $180 million worldwide.

With the success of M3GAN, a sequel was a no-brainer. Coming out later this month, Johnston is back directing the follow up, dubbed M3GAN 2.0, and is even taking up writing the screenplay as well.

Hollywood Reporter even noted that Mattel is bridging the gap in another way between M3GAN and Monster High. The toy line will be inducing a new doll based on the titular robot from the film, to coincide with the release of M3GAN 2.0.

M3GAN 2.0 hits theaters June 27th.
