Longtime anime fans will recognize the iconic character that is Lupin the Third. Created by Kazuhiko Kato (AKA Monkey Punch) in the 1960s, Lupin the Third, is a long running manga series that has garnered many anime adaptations over the years. The series is known for its humor and action being a more comedic take on the spy genre. Last year, the character has received a new CGI animated reboot released in Japan from Takashi Yamazaki director of the recent CGI animated video game adaptation Dragon Quest: Your Story and was produced by TMS Entertainment and Marza Animation Planet. Many American fans were wondering when the film will be coming to the U.S. and fortunately thanks to G Kids, the film will be getting a North American release theatrically.
Lupin the Third: The First will be getting an official released from animation distributor G Kids. The decision was made by G Kids President David Jesteadt, who has been a fan of Lupin since Castle of Cagliostro. He mentioned that he was blown away by the film and praised director Takashi Yamazaki’s work on the project. He said that, “Yamazaki has taken such incredible care and detail in creating Lupin’s first adventure in CGI, and I am hopeful that audiences fall in love with the film as much as I have.”
Vice President of TMS Entertainment, Masami Tokunaga, who is estastic about G Kids’ giving American audience a taste of Lupin’s comeback, stated that”we’re proud to be able to present the latest evolution of the world’s greatest thief”.
No release date has been set for Lupin the Third: The First.
