Canadian actor and musician Luke Macfarlane will be joining comedian Billy Eichner in Universal’s first gay rom-com Bros, Deadline has reported. Notably, this film will be the first gay romantic comedy film to be produced by a major film studio. Eichner says about the announcement, “Only took 100 years! THANKS HOLLYWOOD!!!”
Bros will be directed by Nicholas Stoller (Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Neighbors), from a script he co-wrote with Eichner himself. Judd Apatow will serve as producer of the film, which follows the difficult relationship between two men with commitment problems.
Macfarlane is best known for his role in ABC’s Brothers & Sisters, as well as other TV credits like Killjoys, Over There, The Night Shift, Mercy Street, and Satisfaction. Upcoming titles of his include Single All the Way and Lone Star Bull.
Eichner is most well known for his outlandish character from Parks and Rec, as well as his series Billy on the Street which shows off his particular brand of humor along with celebrity guests. He gained more commercial praise as the voice of Timon in the 2019 live action remake of The Lion King.
Bros is set for theatrical release on August 22, 2022.
