Luke Greenfield To Direct Sci-Fi ‘Slingshot’

Director Luke Greenfiled is stepping away from comedies to direct the new science fiction adventure Slingshot, according to Deadline. The Let’s Be Cops director is know best for directing comedies like The Girl Next Door and the Rob Schneider-vehicle The Animal.

No plot details have been released but the film is reportedly in the vein of 80s adventures like E.T. and Back to The Future. While Slingshot is unlike Greenfield’s previous work, 2004’s The Girl Next Door was a spiritual remake of another 80’s classic, Risky Business. His experience should help him bring the comic relief that made those 80s adventures so memorable. Greenfield will also help develop and produce the project with writer Trevor Sands (EXTR).

Greenfield isn’t completely leaving comedies behind, though. He’s also writing and directing the romantic dramedy Soulmates, along with another thriller called The Holiday Club.

Tyler Lyon: When Tyler isn't thinking about the lack of a Canadian presence in D2: The Mighty Ducks, whether Princess Leia can now be considered a Disney Princess or discovering 8-bit classics on his 3DS, he's cheering on the Cubs, Bulls, Bears, Blackhawks, and Hawkeyes.
