The star of the third installment of The Fast and Furious franchise (The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift) will be back for Fast & Furious 7. Lucas Black starred as troubled teen racer Sean Boswell who made a name for himself in the underground Japanese drift-racing scene. The Tokyo Drift film has held a confusing place in the franchise as it was the third film released in the series, yet chronologically takes place after all of the other films, including those since released. Black’s appearance in Fast & Furious 7 means that the film will be the first that takes place after the events of The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. The subsequent Fast & Furious films (8 and 9 are planned right now) will feature Black and will continue to take place chronologically after Fast & Furious 7.
Black will join a stacked cast which includes franchise veterans Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson and Dwayne Johnson; as well as newcomers Jason Statham, Kurt Russell, Djimon Hounsou, Tony Jaa and Ronda Rousey.
With Fast & Furious 6 marking the biggest worldwide opening in Universal’s history, the studio will be looking to keep the franchise running as long as possible. The 8th and 9th films are already planned and there will most likely be more films to follow.
Fast & Furious 7 is currently filming and is scheduled to release July 11, 2014.
