According to Deadline’s Sundance Studio, Love Lies Bleeding is a new film by Rose Glass set to premiere at the Sundance Film Festival this year. The film stars Twilight alum Kristen Stewart and The Mandalorian star Katy O’Brian and tells a unique queer love story.
Kristen Stewart plays Lou, a gym manager with a dark past who becomes infatuated with Jackie, a bodybuilder portrayed by O’Brian. On the way to Las Vegas, the pair become entangled with Lou’s criminal family. The film also stars Jena Malone, Dave Franco, Anna Baryshnikov, and Ed Harris.
Stewart describes the film as “a love story that takes place in the ’80s that’s really about strength” and the love between a “very, very strong girl and a very, very weak girl trying to get to know each other.” She describes her character as “kind of an affable dude” despite her past with “familial violence.” She believes that Love Lies Bleeding reflects the complexity of human beings: “I believe in individuality, but we’re all humans, and we all have the ability and the capabilities of really disgusting things.”
Stewart signed on to the film because she loved writer-director Rose Glass’ first film, Saint Maud. Stewart describes Saint Maud as “a movie that really blew my head off…I thought it was stupendously put together, from top to bottom.”
Love Lies Bleeding will screen for the first time on January 20, 2024. Check out screening options here.
