Loretta Ramos To Lead Blumhouse And K Period Media’s Screamwriting Fellowship Program As Senior Director, In Collaboration With Sundance Institute

The new hire at Blumhouse and K Period Media’s Screamwriting Fellowship Program aims to scare up some new talent in the horror genre, Deadline reports. Previously a interim head for the Sundance Institute’s Women of Sundance program. Loretta Ramos will now serve as the mentorship program’s new Senior Director. A collaboration between the two production companies and in partnership with the Institute, the Screamwriting Fellowship aims to help emerging underrepresented film and television writers hoping to work in the horror genre.

Created in 2023, the invite-only Fellowship involves a week-long training lab for those chosen followed by mentorship and continued support throughout the year.

Ramos said this about her new position:

“There are some truly electric new voices in horror. Writers from all types of backgrounds are bringing new dimensions to the genre, and I’m so excited to lead this initiative to provide equitable opportunities and make sure they feel supported in bringing their visions to life. It’s been wonderful getting to know the teams at K Period Media and Blumhouse, and I’m looking forward to working together.”

During her time leading the Women of Sundance program, Ramos oversaw their Momentum, Adobe, and Adelante fellowships. Before joining the institute, she served as SVP of Creative Affairs at Halfire Entertainment and was producing partners with Bryan Fuller on shows such as American Gods, Hannibal, and Mockingbird Lane. Currently, she is producing a documentary about the children of Catholic priests.

A member of the Producer’s Guild of America, Ramos is also a graduate of the MFA Producers Program at UCLA’s School of Theater, Film, and Television.

Erik Carlson: Born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa, Erik has loved film from an early age, ever since his grandmother introduced him to Laurel and Hardy, The Little Rascals, and Abbott and Costello. Receiving his Bachelor's in English and Cinema at the University of Iowa, Erik would go on to receive a Masters Degree in Filmmaking at the Los Angeles branch of the New York Film Academy. His thesis project, A Night At The Movies would go on to win several awards on the festival circuit, including Best Short Screenplay at the San Diego International Kids Film Festival. An aspiring screenwriter, Erik likes to write adventure, sci-fi, and fantasy stories. In addition to working at MXDWN, Erik also writes film reviews for fun on his blog. He has also been a digital marketing assistant for Laura Lee Productions since 2019.
