‘Lord of the Rings’ & ‘The Hobbit’ Collection Set Announced

As it goes with many big franchises, the home-release plan always seems to change over time. There are plenty of box-sets that are unofficially targeted towards collectors hit shelves, but every once in a while, one just comes along that almost no one can pass up. The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit franchise have been two of the biggest of their kind, first beginning in 2001 with The Fellowship of the Ring. There have been many different variations of home-releases for the Middle-earth films so far, and Tolkien fans are now in for the most epic yet.

Amazon has announced that they will release a box-set containing all six films in their extended forms from the two trilogies, along with some wonderful extras. This could come as either exciting or aggravating news to fans, having already had so many nice sets released on home media. However, with the gorgeous packaging and never-before-seen extras, this new set might be worth checking out. Amazon released a statement about the upcoming set, revealing all the wonderful details.

For the first time ever, Academy Award®-winning director Peter Jackson’s epic adventure is available in one spectacular limited collector’s edition box set. The Limited Collector’s Edition includes 30 discs featuring all six Middle-Earth films in their extended edition forms, housed in six stunning faux leather books and a collectible Hobbit-style wood shelf. The one-of-a-kind wood shelf is crafted from solid wood with design selected by Peter Jackson. In addition to the extended edition release of every film, the collection also includes all previously released bonus content from both the theatrical and extended editions.

This collector’s set will surely be purchased by the diehards, but only time will tell if others will also decide to double-dip, particularly if they own the six films already. Either way, it’s rare that a set so nice comes out these days. The two trilogies will continue to be among the most influential and successful of the 21st century, so only good can come from picking this one up.

The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings Extended Edition Trilogies is currently set to arrive on October 4, 2016.
