The last that fans saw of Prime Video’s hit show, The Summer I Turned Pretty, the love triangle between Lola Tung’s Belly and brothers Conrad (Christopher Briney) and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno) came to a conclusion with Belly ultimately choosing Conrad on the cobblestone streets of Paris. Fans continued to flock to the series after the finale, topping Prime Video’s global charts months after it aired. Capitalizing on the show’s success, it was announced in September that a feature length follow-up was in the works at Amazon MGM. Plot details have been kept under wraps, but the film will follow Belly and her life in Paris before returning to the beach house alongside Conrad.
Tung recently attended SXSW to promote the horror comedy, Forbidden Fruits, which held its world premiere at the festival. While discussing her role in the film with Collider’s Perri Nemiroff, Tung expressed excitement about returning in the highly anticipated film while reiterating that it’s still in the early stages. “I still haven’t read a script or anything, so it’s cool kind of just going into it. Our showrunner and the writer, the author of the books, Jenny Han, is writing the movie, which is really amazing because she has such a great mind and is always so thoughtful when it comes to writing the scripts, so I’m very excited to see what it ends up being.”
The Summer I Turned Pretty has gained popularity since the first season premiered in 2022. Tung plays the lead, Belly Coklin, and the series explores young love as Belly is emersed in a love triangle with brothers, Conrad and Jeremiah.
