Locarno Competition ‘Moon’ Debuts Teaser

Moon, which will premiere on August 11 for the International Competition portion of the Locarno Film Festival, has just released its first teaser. 

Moon was written and directed by Kurdwin Ayub. According to Variety Ayub’s first film Sonne premiered in the 2022 Berlinale in the Encounters competition where it was one the best first feature aware. 

The film follows the story of Sarah, a former martial artist who leaves home to train the sisters of a wealthy Jordanian family. This dream job quickly becomes strange as the women are cut off from the outside world and placed under surveillance. All this leaves Sarah to question why was she hired in the first place. 

“It’s all about sisters, no matter where they come from, and about cages, no matter where they are. Cages you want to leave and those you wish you could return to,” Ayub said according to Variety. 

The film will star Florentina Holzinger, Andria Tayeh, Celina Antwan, and Nagham Aby Baker and is being produced by Ulrich Seidl alongside the support of the Austrian Film Institute and Filmfonds Vienna according to Variety. 

Shooting for Moon took place from April through August 2023 in Jordan and Austria. Distribution will be handled by Bendita Film Sales.
