Things couldn’t be going any better for Lizzy Caplan. Her newest show, Masters of Sex, premiered to 1.4 million viewers on Sunday night, the same night AMC’s hit Breaking Bad aired its series finale to 10 million viewers. The premiere ties the previous record, held by Homeland, for the second highest premiere in Showtime’s history. Now Variety has broken news that Lizzy Caplan is slated to play the lead female role in the new Seth Rogen/Evan Goldberg movie.
Just like their 2007 comedy-hit Pineapple Express, The Interview is going to be a high concept comedy that will see Seth Rogen costar alongside James Franco. In the film, Rogen and Franco will be playing a producer and a talk show host who somehow get involved in a plot to assassinate a North Korean leader. Lizzy Caplan will play the role of Agent Lacey, a US government agent most likely on the same operation.
This isn’t the first time that Seth Rogen and Lizzy Caplan shared screen time together. Caplan appeared on four episodes of television’s cult classic Freaks and Geeks, where Rogen was a main cast member. The series, produced by Judd Apatow, has become known as the show that introduced the world to James Franco and Seth Rogen, as well as to Jason Segel, Martin Starr and Linda Cardellini.
Seth Rogen went on to make a name for himself as a lead actor in the Judd Apatow comedy, Knocked Up and then as a writer with friend Evan Goldberg in Superbad. While the duo have wracked up many screenwriting credits, The Interview marks Rogen and Goldberg’s second cooperative directorial effort after 2013’s blockbuster This Is The End.
Lizzy Caplan went on to appear alongside Freaks and Geeks alum, Martin Starr in the cult-comedy television series Party Down as well as having multiple episode arcs on True Blood and New Girl. She also took on many film roles as a supporting actress, having credits in Mean Girls, Cloverfield, Hot Tub Time Machine, even reuniting with James Franco in a small role in 127 Hours.
The Interview is currently in pre-production. The producers have not yet disclosed a release date.
