The brand new How To Train Your Dragon has flown into theaters, the first film from the franchise in six years. With the new film, as well, comes a new record for the series when it comes to Rotten Tomatoes. How To Train Your Dragon follows a young Viking struggling to fit in. But when he finds and befriends a dragon, he’s faced with the possibility of changing his entire tribe’s way of life and their perception of dragons.
Since the first film’s release in 2010, followed by subsequent sequels in 2014 and 2019, the How To Train Your Dragon series has been held in high regard when looking at critical reception. Specifically looking at Rotten Tomatoes, the lowest any of the films go for a critic score is the 77% currently attached to the new film, but it simultaneously boasts the highest audience score of the series, as well, at a whopping 99%.
Screenrant, who put together a chart of each film with their respective audience and critic scores, note that this 99% audience score beats out the previous champion of the franchise. The first movie held the highest since its release with a 91%, with the live action beating it by a sizable margin.
