An article written by The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Liv Tyler is returning to Marvel Studios 15 years after starring in The Incredible Hulk. Tyler will reprise her role as scientist Betty Ross, the daughter of General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, played in several films by the late William Hurt and now portrayed in a new installment by Harrison Ford.
Tyler is known for her influential turn-of-the-century work, appearing in movies like Armageddon and Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy and 1990s classics like Empire Records. Tyler co-starred in the acclaimed HBO series, The Leftovers and appeared in Fox’s 9-1-1: Lone Star drama.
The Incredible Hulk was released in the summer of 2008 as Marvel Studios’ second feature film after Iron Man launched the MCU. Edward Norton starred as Bruce Banner/Hulk. The actor famously left the franchise and was replaced by Mark Ruffalo in The Avengers in 2012.
Hart’s Ross had a role in Captain America: Civil War, appearing as the villainous Abomination in the 2016 film, which played a vital role in the Disney+ series She-Hulk. Another Incredible Hulk alumnus, Tim Blake Nelson, will return for New World Order.
Also on the list is Carl Lumbly, returning as the original Super Soldier, Isaiah Bradley, after playing him in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. Danny Ramirez will be in the film, returning from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier as Joaquin Torres and MCU newcomer Shira Haas. Anthony Mackie will topline the film as Sam Wilson, who will take on the role of Captain America for the first time on the big screen.
The Cloverfield Paradox director Julius Honor is directing the film and is currently shooting in Atlanta. Malcolm Spellman, creator of The Winter Soldier series, co-wrote the script with Darran Masson.
Disney/Marvel has set a May 3, 2024, release date for the adventure thriller.
