The post Christmas moviegoing season has hit, and the masses have declared Little Women as the top new release this Holiday weekend. The film, the latest adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s classic novel of the same name, took home $16.5 million its debut weekend for a total of $29 million since its release Christmas day. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and Jumanji: The Next Level kept their first and second spots, respectively.
Considering Little Women‘s budget of $40 million, the Greta Gerwig directed adaptation could end up earning more thank double its budget with its chances of reaching $100 million domestically quite likely. Rise of Skywalker brought home $72 million its second weekend, down 59% from its debut. Earning $361 million cumulatively, the newest Star Wars film sits under 2017’s The Last Jedi, which accumulated $482 million in the same time frame comparatively. Jumanji: The Next Level, sequel to 2017’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, stood in second with $35 million, an increase of 33% in its third week for a total gross of $175 million.
