Lionsgate Secures Sydney Sweeney, Amanda Seyfried For ‘The Housemaid’ Thriller

Lionsgate is set to adapt The Housemaid, a psychological thriller based on Freida McFadden’s best-selling novel, with Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried attached to star. The feature film will be directed by Paul Feig, known for his work on A Simple Favor and its upcoming sequel.

Sweeney has officially signed on to the project, while Seyfried is in final negotiations to join the cast. Sweeney will portray Millie, a woman who begins working as a housemaid for a wealthy couple, Nina and Andrew, only to discover their dangerous secrets. Seyfried is slated to take on the role of Nina.

The screenplay, written by Rebecca Sonnenshine, is adapted from McFadden’s novel, which was first published in 2022. The film will be produced by Todd Lieberman for Hidden Pictures, along with Feig and Laura Fischer for Feigco. Sweeney and Seyfried will also serve as executive producers alongside McFadden and Alex Young.

“I’m thrilled to have The Housemaid join our upcoming slate,” said Adam Fogelson, chair of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group. “A great filmmaker and a great cast with a great script from a great book is a terrific place to start.”

Erin Westerman, Lionsgate’s co-president of Motion Picture Group, expressed excitement over the casting, saying, “Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried are perfect for Millie and Nina — they’re both mysterious, nuanced, and incredibly skilled at becoming characters who don’t reveal everything right away.”

The film marks another collaboration between Lionsgate and Feig, who recently directed Jackpot! for Amazon. Feig is represented by CAA and Sloane Offer, while Sweeney and Seyfried are represented by Paradigm and Innovative Artists, respectively.

No release date has been announced for The Housemaid.
