Space is the last frontier, an astronaut’s dream; the dream to put a man on the moon. But what would happen if the moon were to suddenly fall out of the sky?
Roland Emmerich’s latest project Moonfall is a fight for survival. Moonfall takes on Armageddon’s similar concept where the moon is on course to collide with the earth. Moonfall’s alien villain makes Emmerich’s film unique from Armageddon. Emmerich brings to the film Moonfall all his previous experience working on sci-fi movies like Independence Day, 2012, The Day After Tomorrow.
“As an independent movie it wasn’t easy to overcome $5-6M at least in Covid costs,” Roland revealed on Deadline. “That’s a big hole. We had to find a bank to finance us. We were plain sailing at the start of last year but then we had to immediately shut down due to the pandemic. There was a lot of back and forth between insurance companies and banks. It was a miracle this movie happened at all. We got it done but it took a lot longer than I thought it would.”
Moonfall is set to crash land into theaters on February 4, 2022. Kelly Yu, Patrick Wilson, John Bradley, and Halle Berry round out the cast. Watch the trailer below.
