The Weeknd’s new film, titled Hurry Up Tomorrow, has received its distributor in Lionsgate. The film is a psychological thriller and musical starring Jenna Ortega (Wednesday, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice), Barry Keoghan (Saltburn, The Banshees of Inisherin) and The Weeknd himself, Abel Tesfaye. The film will correlate directly with the release of his newest album, also titled Hurry Up Tomorrow. The film will integrate many of the songs from his album, filling out the musical aspect of the film.
Hurry Up Tomorrow is directed by Trey Edward Shults, who most recently directed Waves in 2019. Plot details are vague at this point without any trailers, but fans can expect the film to act as a continuation and conclusion to The Weeknd’s trilogy of studio albums, starting with After Hours in 2020 and continuing with Dawn FM in 2022.
At this point, it is unknown when the Hurry Up Tomorrow album will be released, whether it be ahead of the film’s release or coincide with the film. Likewise, the film has no scheduled release date as of yet. Abel Tesfaye will act in the film, with his last acting venture being in the HBO series The Idol starring Lily-Rose Depp. Besides that role, his career in the film industry has largely been relegated to composing and cameo appearances, such as in 2019’s Uncut Gems.
