Two time Grammy-nominated choreographer Ryan Heffington reportedly is joining the upcoming Netflix project tick, tick…BOOM! directed by Lin Manuel Miranda, marking the Hamilton actor’s directorial debut in film.
Heffington will choreograph all dance sequences in the film. He won a VMA award for choreographing Sia’s music video for the 2014 pop hit Chandelier, and earned his first Grammy Award nomination for choreographing the 2013 Arcade Fire video We Exist. He was also credited for choreography work on Netflix’s The OA, the finale for HBO’s Euphoria and Edgar Wright’s 2017 action film Baby Driver.
tick, tick… Boom will star Andrew Garfield as Jonathan, a waiter in New York City who aspires to become a theater composer but feels pressure from his girlfriend Susan, who’s waiting for him to carry out those aspirations. With his best friend and roommate Michael giving up on his own creative aspirations, Jon is overwhelmed with the obstacles in his life and wonders if his dream to compose the “next great American musical” is even possible.
Besides Garfield, Alexandra Shipp (Dark Phoenix), Robin de Jesus (Broadway’s In The Heights), and Vanessa Hudgens (Bad Boys For Life) have also joined the cast. The screenplay will be adapted from the original script by Rent creator Jonathan Larson and will be written by Tony Award winner Steven Levenson (Broadway’s Dear Evan Hansen).
The release date for tick, tick… Boom remains unknown for now.
