Lin-Manuel Miranda is having an unstoppable year, seemingly becoming the new go-to composer for Disney. Miranda already composed the music for the upcoming Disney princess movie Moana, and has been cast in the sequel to Mary Poppins. Now, Miranda is teaming up with another Disney favorite — Alan Menken. The two will score the live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid, which previously won two Oscars for Menken back in 1990.
For those who haven’t been keeping up with popular culture, Miranda quickly became a household name thanks to Hamilton, which picked up 11 Tonys this past year due to the brilliant work of the auteur. His fame gave way to many cameos on TV shows, including Inside Amy Schumer, Difficult People and an upcoming episode of Drunk History. Miranda is also starring in the upcoming dramedy Speech & Debate, which will hits theaters sometime later this year.
Several live-action Disney adaptations are currently in the works, including the highly anticipated Beauty and the Beast starring Emma Watson and Dan Stevens. Disney has also approved the sequel to 2014’s Maleficent starring Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning, as well as a second The Jungle Book and a Tinker Bell project with Reese Witherspoon. Disney isn’t the only company working on fairytale features though, since Chloë Grace Moretz recently joined a live-action The Little Mermaid film at Universal.
