Lily Collins is in talks to star in New Line’s romantic-comedy, How to Be Single. Divorcees, cat-women, and broken-hearted teenagers will all be lining up for this flick, based on a novel written by Liz Tucillo (co-author of the book He’s Just Not That Into You and writer for Sex and the City). Having previously acted in the film version of He’s Just Not That Into You, Drew Barrymore is producing the film along with Nancy Juvonen of Flower Films.
Collins is most recently notable from her role in Tarsem Singh’s Mirror Mirror, and is also starring in Christian Ditter’s Love, Rosie (currently in post-production). Ditter is set to direct How to Be Single, and the duo will hopefully be collaborating again on this project.
The film was adapted from Tucillo’s book (published by Atria in 2008). The book has the same title as the movie, and is similar to He’s Just Not That Into You, as it feeds information to single women. However, this is not to be confused as a self-help book; rather, this is a story about a woman living in New York with four single friends. The main character is a book publicist who travels to learn about stories of single women around the world. Although the quest for love in New York will be highlighted, the scope of the movie will be expanded in the writers hands of the film adaptation, through Marc Silverstein and Abby Kohn.
It looks to be a combination of Eat, Pray, Love and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. Although the concept of single women exploring the ups and downs of relationships has been overdone, hopefully the combo of Collins and Ditter will bring a fresh perspective to How to Be Single.
