Disney’s live-action remake of the beloved film Lilo & Stitch has found an actress to play Nani, Lilo’s older sister and legal guardian. The actress cast for the role is Sydney Elizabeth Agudong, a Hawaii native, like the actress playing Lilo, Maia Kehaloha. It is known that Zach Galifianakis joined the cast this February and that Stitch will be made through CGI.
Agudong is not new to acting and has previous credits that include NCIS, Infamously in Love, On My Block, and West Michigan. She recently wrapped an independent feature film in the leading role entitled At Your Feet. She is originally from the island of Kauai, Hawaii. Her younger sister, also an actress named Siena Agudong, is known for the Nickelodeon show Star Falls and the Disney Channel original film Upside-Down Magic.
Lilo & Stitch follows Lilo, a lonely Hawaiian girl who befriends an Alien, who she names Stitch. Lilo adopts him by thinking he is a Dog. Stitch is an Alien experiment meant for destruction and brings a lot of problems to Lilo and Nani’s family life. However, with time he also becomes a part of the family.
The remake is directed by Dean Fleischer-Camp, the director behind the Academy Award-nominated film Marcel the Shell with Shoes On, and written by Chris Kekaniokalani Bright. The live-action film is expected to be a significant release on Disney+.
Lilo & Stitch is set to be released on May 2024.
