In a Collider exclusive, Perri Neminoff interviewed Lili Reinhart (Riverdale, Look Both Ways) to share her thoughts on Reinhart’s new film The Love Hypothesis. The film was inspired by the romantic comedy novel by Ali Hazelwood (Love on the Brain, Love, Theoretically) and the screenplay was written by Sarah Rothschild (The Sleepover, Peaches). Claire Scanlon (Set It Up, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs the Reverend) will direct.
The Love Hypothesis was inspired by a Star Wars ship featuring characters Rey and Kylo Ren. The film focuses on Reinhart’s character, Olive, as she attempts to fake-date her professor, Dr. Adam Carlsen, who will be played by Tom Bateman (Hedda, Behind Her Eyes).
Reinhart shared her thoughts on why she chose The Love Hypothesis to work in, “I just think each project I do, I want to be so different from the last, and it had been many a year since I had done a rom-com, and that’s just something that everyone loves. I did Fruits, and then I shot a movie called The Very Best People, and then I did The Love Hypothesis, and it felt like the movie I wanted to end my year with.”
“She’s such a golden retriever of a human being, and I’m not. Not in a bad way, that’s just not who I am.” Reinhart added about the character she will be playing, “So, it’s a challenge to play someone who’s bubbly and energetic because that’s not me. So, it’s just always doing something different outside myself.”
Reinhart will also be appearing in Forbidden Fruits with Alexandra Shipp (Love, Simon, Anyone but You), Lola Tung (The Summer I Turned Pretty, Chasing Summer) and Victoria Pedretti (You, The Haunting of Bly Manor). The interview was conducted during the premiere of said film at the SXSW. The comedy horror film will premiere March 27 in theaters.
