Liev Schreiber and Susie Abromeit are given their tennis rackets as the two become the most recent castings to the upcoming Warner Bros. biopic King Richard according to Deadline. The two actors hop aboard a film that already features Will Smith as the father of tennis powerhouse sisters Venus and Serena Williams, Richard Williams. The portrayals of Venus and Serena will be handled by Saniyya Sidney of Fences and Hidden Figures fame, as well as Demi Singleton of Godfather of Harlem stardom.
Schreiber is reportedly in line to portray Williams’ tennis coach Paul Cohen, whose resume with working with like legends John McEnroe and Pete Sampras enticed many. Abromeit, on the other hand, will be portraying New York Times reporter Robin Finn. Reinaldo Marcus Green will be tasked with directing the film based on a screenplay by Zach Baylin. The story examines Richard Williams’ grand scheme of making his daughters two of the greatest tennis players the world has ever seen.
Schreiber was last seen in Showtime’s Ray Donovan, which saw its cancellation in January after seven seasons. His next feature appearance will be in Wes Anderson’s The French Dispatch. Abromeit is best known for her work on Jessica Jones and Chicago Med.
