The streets are no longer safe with Frank Drebbin Jr. on the scene. But they may not remain that way, as Naked Gun star Liam Neeson sheds light on if there will be a follow up to the film or not.
The new Naked Gun is the fourth in a string of movies dating back to the late 1980’s. From the creative minds behind Airplane!, 1988’s The Naked Gun: From The Files Of Police Squad!, the Leslie Nielsen-led trilogy became a staple of comedy, and continues to entertain to this day. With Liam Neeson taking over as the son of Nielsen’s character, the new Naked Gun managed to win over audiences. Still maintaining the style of absurdist comedy the films are known for, it managed to snag a Certified Fresh score of 89% on Rotten Tomatoes, as well as a 7/10 on IMDb.
Even with the positive reactions, the chances of a fifth Naked Gun seems to be quite low. Screenrant noted that Neeson, during an interview, elaborated on the likelihood of a follow-up. Although Neeson acknowledged that the film will be able to give audiences a good laugh, also saying that’s something that could help right now, he explained it’s just a one-and-done story.
While talking to Newsweek about it, he had very positive comments about the production. “Not that the experience wasn’t great, it was. It’s terrific, working with Pamela, Danny Huston, all these terrific guys,” he said.
The Naked Gun is now playing in theaters.
