Leslye Headland Set To Direct Netflix Adaptation Of ‘The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo’

Netflix has hired Russian Doll showrunner Leslye Headland to direct the highly anticipated adaptation of Talyor Jenkins Reid’s New York Times Bestseller The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. Written by Liz Tigelaar, the film will be produced by Liza Chasin of 3Dot Productions and Brad Mendelsohn of Circle of Confusion.

The novel follows a young journalist interviewing aging Hollywood starlet Evelyn Hugo, who talks about her life in stardom and all of her former husbands. Throughout the story, Hugo unveils “tales of Hollywood scandals, betrayals, and woe…shocking truths about her own life and the lives of everyone around her.” Thanks to its timely themes and well-developed characters, the book has garnered a huge following to the point where it even became a TikTok sensation.

When this project was pitched, many directors clamored to helm the project until Headland managed to attach her name to the project, marking a strong turnabout for her career. In the past, Headland has worked on television series like Black Monday and Smilf and on feature films like Bachelorette before her big break in Netflix’s Russian Doll. During its run, she served as the showrunner, writer, and even the director of a number of episodes. Eventually, she was able to piggyback on her success to become a showrunner for the Star Wars series Acolyte. There, she additionally worked as the creator, writer, and executive producer.

While there is no news on the official release or production start date, there has been an incredible amount of buzz for the film, mostly from fans hoping that the film will live up to their expectations.
