With all the rights sold and filming set to start on July 12, Leslie Mann and Judd Apatow have exited the upcoming comedy Bad Moms, citing scheduling conflicts, according to Deadline. The married couple had been set to work together on the movie before their departure.
Mann was set to star in the movie and Apatow was set to produce. Mann plays an exhausted and overworked mother who teams up with two other “bad moms” to take on the other parents at the school, particularly the helicopter parents who control everything about their children’s lives. The writing team behind The Hangover, Jon Lucas and Scott Moore, will be directing the movie.
Paramount grabbed the movie’s domestic rights, while Block Entertainment was able to sell the foreign rights at Cannes to countries across the globe, from Germany to Australia to Israel. The movie is still set to continue on its current trajectory, starting filming in July. Apatow had done a lot of work on the script, allowing everyone else to continue with the movie even without his further input.
Leslie Mann is currently working on How to Be Single and The Olive Sisters, both set for release next year, and recently finished filming Vacation, due out this year. She is also set to lend her voice to The Croods 2. Judd Apatow, meanwhile, is currently filming three different projects: the movies Connor4Real and Pee-Wee’s Big Holiday as well as the television series Love, due out next year.
As it is still in development, Bad Moms has no set release date.
