Batgirl, a new DC Universe installment from Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah starring Leslie Grace, is well into production. In a recent conversation with Variety, the actress had a chance to tease the film and discuss the future potential of the character.
When asked about how she was adjusting to the responsibility of the role, Grace said: “It’s like almost a little overwhelming and hard for your brain to catch up to the magnitude of what it is that you’re doing that it almost feels like it’s happening in a vacuum. I was just like, “Oh, man, I hope I can do this. Am I in the club?” I almost felt like the whole time; I had some imposter syndrome. You want to earn your place.”
In response to a question about a sequel, she said: “We got to see this first one first. But there’s definitely some talks about what it could be. I’ve seen some of what we’ve shot, obviously in the playback and stuff like that, and it’s insane.” She went on to say, “We’ve already been talking about where do we take this from here because there’s so much that happens in this film. There are a lot of different themes in the plot that we touch on. It’s not just the action. There’s a love story. There’s this father-daughter relationship. There’s looking at the world through a lens that isn’t just black and white and seeing the color and the spectrum between things.”
The film is set to debut Grace as Barbara Gordon/Batgirl alongside J.K. Simmons as Jim Gordon, Barbara’s father, and police commissioner. Although plot details are sparse, we also know that Brendan Fraser will star in the film in the villainous role of Firefly and that Michael Keaton will grace the screen once again with his version of Batman.
It seems that Grace is excited about the film and the potential of the character, and all will be revealed to audiences when the film hits HBO Max later this year.
