Leonardo DiCaprio will star in Martin Scorsese’s adaptation of David Grann’s The Wager: A Tale of Shipwreck, Mutiny, and Murder. The project has been set up at Apple again, following the duo’s previous collaboration on Apple’s Killers of the Flower Moon, which is, too, based on a novel by Grann.
The film is set in the 1740s and follows the British naval ship, called the Wager, wrecking on an isolated island off the tip of South America. The captain and crew have to figure out a way to survive and maintain order, while battling their own instincts.
Dan Friedkin and Bradley Thomas are producing The Wager along with Scorsese; DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson are also on board. Richard Plepler will be an executive producer.
Killers of the Flower Moon was expected to be released in 2022, but Apple has pushed back the date to May 2023. Prior to this film Scorsese and DiCaprio have worked together on Gangs of New York, The Aviator, The Departed, Shutter Island, and The Wolf of Wall Street.
