Lena Dunham To Adapt Sam Bankman-Fried Film For Apple And A24

Lena Dunham in 'Girls'

Apple and A24 are teaming up to adapt Michael Lewis’ bestselling book, Going Infinite: The Rise and Fall of a New Tycoon, into a film, with Lena Dunham set to write the script, Variety exclusively reported.

The movie will chronicle the rise and dramatic collapse of Sam Bankman-Fried and his cryptocurrency exchange, FTX. Released in October 2023, Going Infinite became a New York Times bestseller, detailing Bankman-Fried’s journey from the youngest billionaire in crypto to a central figure in one of the biggest financial scandals in recent history. The book explores his rise to fame, the swift success of FTX and the eventual collapse as billions in customer funds vanished.

The book’s official description reads:

“When Michael Lewis first met him, Sam Bankman-Fried was the world’s youngest billionaire and crypto’s Gatsby. CEOs, celebrities and leaders of small countries all vied for his time and cash after he catapulted, practically overnight, onto the Forbes billionaire list. Who was this rumpled guy in cargo shorts and limp white socks, whose eyes twitched across Zoom meetings as he played video games on the side? Lewis sets out to answer this question, taking readers into the mind of Bankman-Fried, whose rise and fall offers an education in high-frequency trading, cryptocurrencies, philanthropy, bankruptcy and the justice system.”

Lena Dunham, best known for creating Girls, has also directed Catherine Called Birdy and Sharp Stick. This film marks the latest collaboration between Apple and A24, following previous projects such as On the Rocks and The Tragedy of Macbeth.
