Nate Parker, Audience and Grand Jury Prize winner at Sundance with Birth Of A Nation, has struck a new film deal over at Legendary Pictures. In the deal, Parker is set to write, direct, and produce his own original feature film idea. There have not been many details circulating about the film’s premise, or even a title, but some speculate it’s about creating a world.
These are exciting times for Parker as this deal comes after he scored a $17.5 million agreement with Fox Searchlight in January for Birth of a Nation distribution rights. Legendary obviously does not have a problem making moves and investing in high priority talent seeing as how Parker is now in good company. That’s right, Legendary has also won the rights to Adam McKay‘s latest investigatory drama Bad Blood starring Jennifer Lawrence, and have been eyeballing the rights to produce a live-action Pokemon movie. This only proves furthermore that the investment they have made in Parker is a testament to his hard work and dedication. Hollywood better prepare, because Nate Parker is coming at us fast!
Be sure to keep a look out for the rest of Parker’s work, which will soon include an adaptation of the true life wrestling story Carry On. Birth Of A Nation will release October 7th, 2016.
