Lawrence Fishburne is the newest addition to the cast of Mike Flanagan’s The Exorcist. Fishburne joins an already stacked cast that includes recently announced Chiwetel Ejiofor, Diane Lane, and Scarlett Johansson.
This chapter is a new, standalone story and is not a sequel to 2023’s The Exorcist: Believer. Mike Flanagan is writing and directing the picture. He will also serve as producer alongside Blumhouse, Atomic Monster, and Morgan Creek Entertainment. Flanagan is more than familiar with the horror genre, previously directing Doctor Sleep and Netflix’s The Haunting of Hill House and Midnight Mass. The reboot of the highly sought after The Exorcist IP comes after The Exorcist: Believer premiered to poor reviews and underwhelming returns at the box office.
Fishburne’s role is being kept under wraps. His most recent roles include the Bowery King in the John Wick universe and Regis in season 3 of Netflix’s The Witcher. He is best known his role of Morpheus in the Matrix trilogy and his Oscar-nominated role of Ike Turner in What’s Love Got To Do With It.
The Exorcist is set to shoot in New York City and is aiming for a wide theatrical release in March 2027. Stay up to date with any upcoming news on The Exorcist here at MXDWN.
