Parenthood‘s mother-daughter duo Lauren Graham and Mae Whitman are teaming up once again to adapt The Royal We, movie to be based on the novel by GoFugYourself.com’s Jessica Morgan and Heather Cocks, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The novel follows a young Kate Middleton, the American girl-next-door who travels to England to study at Oxford University where she falls in love with another student — a student that just happens to be the Prince William, the future King of England. Like the upcoming film Southside With You that will tell the origin story of Michelle and Barack Obama’s romance, The Royal We will presumably be looking to explore the humble beginnings of a highly publicized romance.
Graham will be adapting the script as her first writing gig with Whitman on deck to star in the vehicle. Both actresses will also be producing alongside distributor CBS Films.
Graham is most known for being one-half of a couple iconic mother-daughter television combos — first as Lorelei Gilmore in Gilmore Girls and then as Sarah Braverman in Parenthood which recently aired its final sixth season. She will next appear opposite Thomas Middleditch (HBO’s Silicon Valley) in Joshy.
Whitman has been in the business since a very young age, playing the President’s daughter in Independence Day and appearing in countless television shows thereafter. She came back on the scene in a big way after she appeared in Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, and then as Amber Holt in Parenthood. Her first headlining role came this year with the teen comedy The DUFF. Playing a high-profile character such as Dutchess Kate Middleton will likely be another opportunity for the young actress to gain recognition.
