Lars Eidinger Cast As Superman Villain Brainiac In ‘Man Of Tomorrow’

The next film for the Man of Steel is starting to take shape. The main villain of Man of Tomorrow, Superman’s classic foe Brainiac, has finally been cast, with actor Lars Eidinger stepping into the role.

First appearing in Action Comics #242, Brainiac has been a mainstay in Superman lore for many years. Although not the most easily recognized of Superman’s rogues’ gallery, he’s been depicted multiple times over the years in many different media. Although Man of Tomorrow will be his first full-fledged film appearance, he was in earlier script drafts for 1983’s Superman III.

Eidinger is already a well-established actor, but his role as Brainiac in Man of Tomorrow will mark his first appearance in a comic book film. His biggest works when it comes to film are his performances in White Noise, High Life, and Personal Shopper. He has had experience in the realm of television as well, after working on projects such as the 2022 miniseries Irma Vep.

The Hollywood Reporter noted that news of Eidinger’s casting came directly from DC Studios co-head James Gunn, who will be directing Man of Tomorrow. Posting to his X account, Gunn formally welcomed Eidinger to the franchise, explaining that he “rose to the top.”

Man of Tomorrow hits theaters July 9th, 2027.
